Welcome to Cesis
Cēsis is one of the most ancient towns in Latvia. For the first time the name of Cēsis was mentioned in 1206. By the end of the 14th century and the beginning of the 15th century due to its convenient geographical position Cēsis took more and more important position in trade and became an important member of the Hansa League.

There are many cultural monuments from ancient times in the Cēsis region, such as the castle mounds, medieval castles and cemeteries. The majority of architectural monuments that have survived come from 13th century. Cēsis is a birthplace of Latvian National flag that is second oldest flag in Europe.

The picturesque surroundings of Cēsis as well as its outstanding architectural monuments are considerable conditions for it to become one of the tourism centres with popular culture and sport activities every year.
